NORIT® is a global leader with a one-hundred-year history in the production of activated carbon. Their products are helping thousands of companies around the world purify and improve their products. Norit activated carbon products purify water, beer, wine, foods, pharmaceutical ingredients and countless other products and processes to make them cleaner and safer for users everywhere. Pavlov (then Jubileebook.nl) made a wonderful designed jubilee book for the Dutch company, which won the price for the best designed book in 1998.

80 YEARS OF NORIT

January 28, 1998 marked the 80th anniversary of norit’s incorporation as the nv Algemeene Norit Maatschappij; royal approval was granted on May 17, 1918. The company has undergone great changes in the past 80 years. The original plan was to publish this commemorative book in 1993 on the occasion of Norit’s 75th anniversary. However, the disappointing circumstances at that time and the measures that had to be taken as a result led us to decide against it. In retrospect, we see that this was a good decision. The past five years have shown that a difficult period can have a highly purifying effect. A new course has been set out and the base has been broadened; in short, Norit is still alive and kicking after eighty years.

It is fitting to emphasize in this foreword that a company continues to exist by the grace of what these days are known as the ‘stakeholders’: our clients, suppliers and shareholders. But we have not yet mentioned the most important of these: the employees. This book has been written for everybody, but it is dedicated to our employees. They are the basis of our continued success; and this remains our greatest challenge for the future.
